They say I am not my past, nor my present. They say I am not my mistakes and failures. They say I am not my struggles and imbalances. They even say I am not what people call me or what I think about myself. If all this is true, then who am I?
My dear, you don’t need to be confused about this. There is a definition of you, and it can only be found in one place.
The world has its own way of defining a person—by what they eat, wear, say, by what happens to them, by their mistakes and failures, and by their life experiences. The world’s view of identity might seem reasonable, but it’s often misleading and confusing because the real you is not always visible. While the physical aspects of your life can offer some insights, they don’t reveal the full truth.
The only one who truly knows your identity is God. Why? Because He created you. No matter what happens in life, no matter how you feel about yourself, who you are remains unchanged, and God knows and believes in who you are.
Who you are is who God says you are. Don’t focus on the temporary, physical things that will eventually fade away. Instead, focus on the eternal you—the person God created, a perfect spirit housed in a physical form, whether male or female.
In His word, God reveals your true identity:
- **You are a man (either male or female).** As a human, you hold the key to dominion on earth. This means you have the power to dominate your environment, no matter what happens to you, no matter your failures or struggles. The ability to rise above it all is within you (Gen. 1:26-27).
- **You are His child.** You are God’s child, created in His image and called His heritage. Forget about your weaknesses, failures, and every negative thing that tries to define you. These are distractions meant to confuse you. The moment you realize who you truly are, you become unstoppable. You are a child of God and, in a sense, a small god. You possess power and strength like your Heavenly Father. Think of a prince in a kingdom—he receives the same honor as his father, the king, regardless of his behavior or attributes. You are that prince in God’s kingdom (Psalms 82:6).
Your identity is not tied to your circumstances or challenges. You only need to start living in your true and only identity. Like a prince in his father’s kingdom, you carry the authority and honor of your Heavenly Father.
“The earth is the Lord’s…” (Psalms 24:1a). Can you see? Your Father is the owner of the whole earth. Don’t define yourself by any other identity than the one your Father has given you.
